Yesterday I attended FOSDEM 09 (Free and Open Source Software Developers’ European Meeting) in Brussels. It was great!

The schedule comprised of various main tracks, developer rooms and lightning talks. Highlights for me included Brion Vibber of MediaWiki talking about the upcoming Wikipedia Usability Initiative, a demonstration of Drupal’s Automated Web Translation Workflow module, and Leslie Hawthorn’s keynote presentation Google Summer of Code: A Behind the Scenes Look at Large Scale Community Management.

I hope that next year’s FOSDEM will include one or two Moodle presentations. I’d like to talk about our Moodle community!

Regarding GSoC 2009, Leslie announced a couple of important dates:

  • 9 March 2009 – Mentoring organizations can begin submitting applications to Google
  • 23 March 2009 – Student application period opens.
