Archive for February, 2009

I’ve realised we need to start working now on our Projects for new developers list for Google Summer of Code 2009. Please see the discussion Wanted: New feature ideas for GSOC projects for more details.

I came across some interesting ideas on managing GSOC from another Open Source project, DrupalSoC 2009: We need a team (or, webchick’s braindump about SoC) and SoC Team Sign-Up Wiki Page-O-Rama.

Further security improvements

I’ve come across several security improvements in today’s weekly code review, including the implementation of a spam cleaner tool (MDL-17144) and links in the security overview report for fixing any unsupported role assignments (MDL-18041). To be effective, the new security overview report in Moodle 1.9.4 (and in Moodle 1.8.8+ from Wednesday onwards) requires documentation for administrators on how to fix any identified security issues (MDL-18078).

Popular gradebook issues

Today I’ve been chatting with Nicolas about various gradebook issues, including whether the LSU stats report would be a good solution for providing gradebook summary statistics (MDL-18163) and the format of an admin setting for choosing whether to display the gradebook dropdown menu and/or tabs (MDL-18004).

I notice that newly-created issues for individual features of the LSU gradebook – MDL-18228 and MDL-18229 – are quickly voted upon.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to vote and/or comment on gradebook issues. Please keep doing so!

Documentation discussions

I often wish I had more time to focus on Moodle Docs. Fortunately, our documentation writers do a fantastic job and it’s great to see new people contributing too.

As our documentation wiki grows, issues arise regarding content organisation. Discussions in the Moodle documentation forum, such as the recent Too many FAQs?, can help us find solutions to these issues. Thanks for everyone’s comments.
